Dinner Bell's a'Ringin'

I sat down with one of our homeless guys at the meal program. He lives outdoors no matter what the climate and has skin tanned by the elements into a deep leathery brown. He is also eternally happy and optimistic. Wondering about this - his never ending happiness and politeness while having chosen such a difficult way of life - I asked him if he had any wisdom to share.

I've done this before and sometimes it results in a really wonderful conversation that restores your faith in the 'goodness' inherent in everyone. At other times, however, you spend half an hour listening to talk of out of body experiences, trading experiences like playing cards in the afterlife and energy that radiates from everyone, energy from which the entire future of the universe can be ascertained. Trust me, you do not want to find yourself in one of those conversations without a plausible exit strategy.

In my case it was, "Oh - have to go! Got to get dinner on!"

Seems to me that wisdom would dictate that it is obvious that the best way to keep in touch with the earth is to play cards.Only of course if you are playing fish.

i would wonder aboout someone that seems always happy and polite. i would be terribly curious. like looking at an accident on the highway...it would make me slow down and wonder what's going on.

i live in a house. not a big house, but, big enough. i have food and family and lots of good things. my mind however, it has it problems that is probably chemestry...which has caused depression and anxiety togehter. right now meds are doing a pretty good job of keeping me from the black hole. but, i can relate to not having a good mind to work with. my reasoning is good though, as good as most humans is suppose. life seems so much nicer with a healthy mind and body.

all i can say is that suffering sucks and i want everyone to go to heaven and live with no more of it. then we can all be happy and polite all of the time and i will not wonder about it at all.

I dunno, man. Cooking dinner for 100 seems like an awful lot of work just to escape a conversation...
