[rhymes with kerouac]

It was one year ago today that we opened our public meals program. When I look back on it now, I remember how scary it was. We were in the midst of doing the deal to purchase the building but didn't own it yet - essentially we hijacked the kitchen and dining room. Maybe 'hijacked' is not the right word, it's just that everything was done on a handshake and a promise and there was no guarantee things were going to work out.  It's easy to say that we have to live by faith, it's quite another thing altogether to actually do it. There was also a surprising amount of opposition to us - we were conscious of the fact that we were in an enormous spiritual battle - which has continued to this day.

Mostly though, as I think back on the last year I'm surprised at how fast time is moving now. I'd like to say that some metaphysical reality to the universe has changed, accelerating time with each passing day. It's more likely I'm getting old.

And cranky - but that's another story.
